ABOUT

Lilian Goldie

I inherited the love and passion for art and painting from my father, so art has always been present in my life. Painting for me is a way of expressing my feelings and I find the  process of painting is an emotional experience in itself. I am very influenced by my mood and the music that I’m listening to at the time. My approach is instinctive and, in a way, the process of painting guides me creatively.

During my working career I have been a free lance display artist and visual merchandise manager at Harrods and have worked for Adel Rootstein in the prestige mannequin market. At this time I travelled extensively and liaised with Liberty’s, Harvey Nichols and Selfridges whilst also working closely with top designers. I previously worked in a multi-disciplined art department that had fantastic facilities and allowed me the freedom to experiment with a wide range of materials and techniques, which I shared with the other staff and students. I'm now a full time artist and most of my time is occupied painting and experimenting in clay.

My abstract art paintings are experimental and show how passionate I am about colour and how it relates to textures and organic form. Some pieces are directly related to personal experiences, whereas others are more intuitive and reflect my current state of mind and situation. As well as abstraction, portraiture has always been special to me whereby I am to represent the nature and character of the sitter rather than just a photographic likeness.

My 3D investigations are generally in clay or plaster and range from one off originals to limited edition pieces. The subject matter is wide ranging and is inspired by organic shapes evolving into abstract forms. With 3D work there is an element of experimentation which really interests me, as the outcomes can have surprisingly unpredictable elements .
